Gloria Castillo was an actress, best known for her role as the young girl Ruby, whose budding sexuality attracts the unwanted attention of "preacher" and serial killer Robert Mitchum in the 1955 classic "The Night of the Hunter." Roles dried up and in the late 1960's, she began her designing career. She died in 1978 of a rare form of mouth cancer that her physician brother attributed to nearly ten years of exposure to carcinogens in the factory where she made her dresses.
